Pirates of the Caribbean - 'Dead Men Tell No Tales'

This was a fun film to work on, and a long project. I started out doing some prop designs from home, then moved into an illustrator role which was on-site (Gold Coast) working with Production Designer, Nigel Phelps.

Seth Engstrom had previously done a bunch of cool art for this scene. Nigel asked me to try a few more ideas. I think Seth may have developed this further as well. The final result was much more subtle, with just the spikes protruding from the water.

This concept for Poseidon's Trident was pretty much a lightning in a bottle moment. Nigel sketched a 3 pronged shell on a shaft. I did a page of thumbs based on it, one was chosen and I detailed it up, that's it. The sculptors and painter did a great job.
